- Sheila Springsteen is a former staff newspaper photographer, now freelance photojournalist based in Detroit. She lives happily with her husband John Greilick, a staff photographer at The Detroit News, and her 7-yr-old son Jackson. In 2002 she was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize and has been named the winner of the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for Domestic Photography for her work on a three-year-long photographic essay. In addition her work has been recognized with awards from the National Press Photographers Association, The New Jersey Press Association and Gannett. Sheila’s photographs have been published in the NY Times Sunday feature section, United States Department of State’s website, Sports Illustrated, AP, The Detroit News, as well as commercial, promotional, and documentary photography for private clients. Sheila earned her Masters in Art Education with a specialization in Art Therapy from Wayne State University, and her Bachelors of Fine Art at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
It’s been a real treat to watch our Amaryllis plant bloom ~thanks Laurie & Gordon!! Jackson and I potted it while John was in Florida. Within a week, and seemingly out of nowhere it began to sprout, and one by one, the glorious petals opened. Sadly, the blooms are beginning to fade- almost as quickly as the burst forth. But it has brought me many smiles and gives me hope for a new season= literally & figuratively :D
