Kristin & John, Cranbrook House

John and I were thrilled to be a part of Kristin E. and John C.'s late summer wedding at the historic Cranbrook House and Gardens in Bloomfield Hills.

As the bride and groom wanted to spent as much time as possible with each other and their guests, they opted to see each other privately beforehand. I am personally a big fan of this idea, as it is such an emotional moment and provides a space to speak one's heart and mind, as well as clear the nerves! From their private meeting we jumped into bridal party and family pictures. We had enough downtime for a breather~ Kristin joined her girls. John C., a huge Tigers fan, gave each guy a monogramed baseball bat, and the guys got to play a little ball on the perfectly landscaped grounds. (My) John had a blast with this (as a Tiger's beat photographer for the Detroit News)!

The weather was surprising mild and created the perfect backdrop for their outdoor ceremony. Officiated by a family friend, this has to be the shortest ceremony (at the couple's request) either of us have yet to witness! Then it was on to the cocktail hour in the fountain garden- lovely hors d'oeuvres and champagne all around!

Toasts were done in the garden by best man Clay and bridesmaids Sally and Dawn, as the reception tables were set across several rooms and Kristin and John opted for an open seating concept. Guests had many choices from the dinner buffet as well- from the elegant brides choice of grilled meats, veg and salad, to the grooms selection of detroit-style coney bar! Neither Kristin or John like cake, so they served a plethora of pies and a sundae station. Who says you have to conventional in a national landmark? :D Guests meandered the public spaces of the mansion and grounds, enjoying wonderful food and conversation amidst priceless antiques and art, and out under the stars.

Dancing took place under the tent surrounded by a wall of twinkling candles and sparklers waiting to be lit. We left the party with an hour or so remaining, still humming from the beauty of it all. Cheers Kristin and John!! We wish you and your family all the Best!!

Clearance Rack

So, I've been told that I have a thing for shoes. I won't deny it. As a small girl I used to play in my auntie J's closet for hours- she had what seemed a hundred pair of funky~fresh shoes. Boots, wedges, clogs, stilletos... you name it she had it. Of course they didn't fit- she was a size 7, and I was maybe a 1 or 2. She promised to the save them for me, esp. my fav pair- cork wedge peekaboos, with clear plastic body and mini plastic fruit details! little bananas, cherries, oranges and limes... I absolutely A.D.O.R.E.D. these shoes!! But alas, auntie J. gave them away. Or lost them, or threw them out. Oh yeah- my foot stopped growing at- you guessed it-size 7. I still pine for those shoes. But I guess I'll settle for these ^^^, my newest pair! Can you believe I found these Kors on a clearance rack for $50?!?!? Happy Day!! And Happy 4th Y'all!!

John and I are finally getting around to making our wedding album... on the heels of our 9th anniversary, lol Speaking of anniversary, this year is especially cool in a numerology sense: 9.9.09 is our 9th :D

One of the main reasons we haven't gotten around to an album yet is that we got married just as the film< digital debate was still underway. We didn't quite trust the quality of digital to record our precious memories. Before we knew it, we were moving to MI, buying a house and having a baby! By the time we caught our breath all the neg scanners we had access to were gone. (As a newspaper photographer, you get cheap/lazy about paying someone for something you can do yourself- on your lunch break or days off- of course!)

So here we are, 9 years later with a box full of negs. And I am now a wedding photographer. I am determined to make our album this year- please hold my feet to the fire!! XO

I walked to pick Jackson up from school the other day and part way there wished I had my camera... I was walking under this amazing tree and behind it the sun was just starting to break through this layer of sheet-y clouds. It was beautiful and eerie at the same time, but if I ran back for the camera I would have been late. I pressed on hoping it would remain until I could return.

By the time Jackson and I passed back through, the clouds had drifted off, and the sky was a clear blue... We both grabbed our cameras, and did a little spring photo session. It is so cool to see Jax taking an interest in photography, and he is so cute in his photographer's stance(s). What an amazing kid :-)
